Forged floating ball valves are a form of quarter-turn valve that uses a hollow, perforated, and pivoting ball (called a floating ball) to control flow through it.
The floating design utilizes natural line pressure to press and seal the ball against the downstream seat. The ball is suspended in the flowing medium (floating) and held in position by the compression of the two seats against it.
It is open when the ball’s hole is in line with the flow and closed when it is pivoted 90 degrees by the valve handle. Floating ball valves are durable, performing well after many cycles, and reliable, and close securely even after long periods of disuse.

- Ball valves are used as bubble-tight shut-off valves or on/stop valves to control, regulate, and refine different fluids.
- They find their application in all kinds of air, vapor, and hydrocarbon systems.
- The instrument tubing process makes use of ball valves to connect different instruments.
- Soft-seated ball valves are used in low-pressure and low-temperature applications.
- In upstream applications, ball valves are used to regulate the flow of oil and gas.
- In midstream applications, they are used to protect the equipment.
- In downstream applications, ball valves are used in the refining oil process.
